BCL signs the Open Letter to the European Parliament on the pesticide Omnibus: OPEN CALL for scientists to sign<\/strong><\/p>\n

BCL has signed the Open Letter to the European Parliament asking it to pause the debate on the Omnibus proposal on Food and Feed Safety. We invite fellow scientists to join us.\u00a0<\/strong>The backlash against the European Green Deal is growing, and EU policymaking is increasingly ignoring scientific evidence. The Commission\u2019s Omnibus proposal would \u201csimplify\u201d pesticide use in the EU, which in practice means deregulating it. Pesticide overuse harms both human health and the environment and particularly pollinators, being against the concept of One-Health. Some Members of the European Parliament have since proposed amendments that would make the proposal even worse.\u00a0Scientists from the Netherlands drafted the Open Letter in response. It asks Parliament to pause the debate until a rigorous, independent assessment of the proposal has been carried out, and to take science into account.<\/p>\n
